Safety requirements

Requirements for location and installation
Note the space requirements for floor or laboratory bench intended installation and for safe operation, in particular the minimum distance to all the ventilating holes or grid, liquid connections and/or exhausting opening; Additional requirements for the rigidity and non-slippery of the floor and /or laboratory bench. Note that abnormal noise may develop with unstable bench and unexpected movement may occur with a slippery surface; If a hazard could be caused by hot items falling from the heating equipment, for example when a door of oven is opened, the equipment must not be mounted on a surface of flammable material; In avoidance of triggering of an erroneous fire alarm, assembling the heating equipment away from overhead fire sensors, where opening of the door or cover or, exhausting of the fume is possible for normal use
Fixing sheet or locating pin if any used for protection against transportation damage shall be removed when the equipment is to be installed, in avoidance of overheated equipment resulting from stalled motor and/or, enhanced vibration and unexpected abnormal noise due to the deteriorated buffering. Assembly and adjustment of the mechanism, platform and clamp if any for the mechanic motion of a shaker intended to be installed and adjusted in advance
For equipment incorporating lockable swivel casters and/or levelers, the casters shall be locked and/or, the levelers shall be adjusted to position and/or level the equipment so that it doesn't move or travel resulting in hazard from imbalance and/or side skid
Ventilation requirements: if the operating of the equipment could lead to liberation of hazardous air or gas mixture, an extraction system and additional temperature-limiting device relating to safe temperatures for the materials, etc may be necessary. Hazardous gas prohibited from being exhausted to the environment by laws, acts or regulations, shall be provided with procedures for pre-treatment and warning of up-to-standard releasing to the extraction system only if requirements for ventilating are met
Requirements for liquid draining or overflowing: if the operating of the equipment could lead to draining or overflowing of liquids containing biological and/or chemical hazard, a special draining system or liquid container shall be employed. Hazardous liquid prohibited from being exhausted to the environment by laws, acts or regulations, shall be provided with procedures for pre-treatment and warning of up-to-standard releasing to the draining system only if requirements for draining are met
Connection to the power source:
terminal for equipotentiality if any provided shall be connected to protective grounding
for equipment intended for wet locations, where cycle of frosting and defrosting, condensing, overflowing or spillage occurs frequently and
for equipment in which hazardous live parts may need to be accessible, power socket with appropriate IP protection and external residual current circuit breaker (RCD) with rated breaking capacity shall be used
for single phase equipment, hot line and neutral line must not be reversed; for three phase equipment, sequence of the phases shall be checked and confirmed
for permanently connected equipment:
note the requirements for wiring and distributing of the supply
note the requirements for any external switch or circuit-breaker and external over current protection devices, and that the switch or circuit-breaker shall be near the equipment
Drying-out at 105 °C for 2 h and/or standstill for at least 24 h is necessary when the equipment is stored and/or transported, in wet, upside-down or tilted conditions
Where applicable for equipment cooled by circulating water, the water shall have the quality for a boiler, The maximum temperature shall not exceed 35 °C with pressure of 3-4 bar. Note the requirements for the installations of pipe and the use of pipe filter and/or strainer
In case laboratory circulator is to be installed and connected to an application system such as rotary evaporator, jacketed reactor before being commissioned, the external circulating pipe, including flexible tubing and hose, shall be connected only after the circulator and application system are well seated and installed. The length, the distribution path, the materials of the piping shall be so that no significant mechanical, thermal and chemical stress develop during normal use resulting in thermal and/or liquid hazard
The operator shall be well instructed that, if the equipment is installed in a manner not specified or recommended by Xutemp, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired and the technical data specified for the equipment may not be met.
Operation of baths and circulators
For such circulators as XT5618 and XT5218, intended to be connected to an application system during operation for normal use, connect the application system with flexible tubing as specified and recommended by Xutemp; Check for leakage and insulation
Never attempt to initiate the equipment if no heat transfer liquid is filled or filling volume is lower than the minimum level as specified
Never move the equipment if the bath tank is fully filled with the heat transfer liquid
The liquid level may change and, low level warning/high level overflow may develop with the heating and cooling of the equipment with large bath capacity and with the immersion or removal of the specimen and, with the change of operating temperatures. The liquid level of bath is affected by weight or volume of the specimen, excessive immersion may lead to hazard of overflow and spillage of liquid
Disconnect the application system from the equipment only after proper draining of the heat transfer liquid, especially when the application system is charged to maximum volume by additional filling of the liquid
The circulation of the heat transfer liquid is important for performance and safety! The kinematic viscosity, immersion and distribution of the specimen and, flow resistance of the application system and the circulating tubing significantly influence the circulation of the liquid, resulting in degraded stability, uniformity and overheating of the liquid
Equipment of Class I/NFL is designed for operation with non-flammable heat transfer liquids only! The temperature range of the heat transfer liquid shall match that of the equipment. Water and mixture of water and glycol are the most popular non-flammable heat transfer liquids appropriate for the equipment. Use care for evaporation of component and change of the mixing ratio for mixed components which may impair its performance and safety
Never touch or attempt to handle the heat transfer liquid directly with temperature of over +60 °C or lower than -30 °C. Hazard of burn!
Effect of exchanging the heat transfer liquids exists on the proper operation of a flow-through circulating pump. Use care not to interrupt liquid flow by introducing air into the liquid line when exchanging the heat transfer liquid. The first time commissioned for use or when exchange of the heat transfer liquid and, immediately after startup of the circulating pump, check if any liquid leakage exists in the external circulating tubing and fittings, if head pressure of the pump and flow of the heat transfer liquid are in their rated range and, if the liquid level is in its range for safe operation! Label or mark washed off from the specimen may block the liquid circulating. Check and clean filter regularly for a flow through circulating pump
Mixing and use of heat transfer liquids with different physical and/or chemical properties may adversely affect the performance and safety of the equipment! The liquid shall be completely drained and removed before attempting to charge the other
Cooling capacity and/or effective heating capacity under particular operating and/or ambient temperature conditions that the equipment is capable of extracting from or providing to available for specimen and/or application system shall match the application. If the heat energy produced by the specimen or application system is more than what the equipment is capable of competing with, hazard of overheating, fire, explosion and destruction of the equipment and application may result, other than temperature drifting or degraded stability
Hydraulically sealed circulating of an enclosed circulator such as XT5718 may cause internal over pressure of the application system and develop rupture and, hazard of spillage of the heating or cooling liquid if connected to an closed system; Overflow of the liquid may result if casual loosening or releasing of the opening happens when connected with an open bath
Pull the temperature of the heat transfer liquid as close as possible to the ambient before attempting to shut down the equipment. Try any possible alternative when operations as such are prohibited for the specimen or the application system.

Pay special attention to the ACC temperature range for continuous operation of the refrigerating system. The motor-compressor is shut down for temperatures beyond ACC range, and are not applicable for immediate cooling down, removal of heat energy from the specimen or application system
With operation of the heat transfer liquid in a bath or circulator, or when heating, cooling or conditioning with specimen which is intrinsically explosive, flammable or toxic or, which develops tremendous energy, liberates hazard substances as result of reacting, dissolving or mixing under operating temperature range for normal use, safety acts and regulations for the particular chemicals shall be observed
Check level and concentration of the heat transfer liquid periodically and, clean residues if any. If necessary for performance or safety, exchange parts, components or assembly of the equipment
Follow instructions for controllers incorporated with the equipment, which include series of CD1000, CD2000, CD3000, CD6000 and CD7000 etc
Operation of ovens, incubators and chambers
Not applicable for heating, cooling, conditioning or storage of specimen which is intrinsically explosive, flammable or toxic or, which may liberate hazardous substances under normal operating temperature conditions!
Caution: Explosive or flammable hazards
Keep clear of inlets and outlets of back plenum for the circulating air. Excessive hoarding of specimen or blockage of the air circulating may cause frost accumulation on surface of the evaporator, localized temperature distribution and degraded performance, resulting in hazard of overheating or subcooling from heating or radiation
Cooling capacity and/or effective heating capacity under particular operating and/or ambient temperature conditions that the equipment is capable of extracting from or providing to available for specimen shall match the application. If the heat energy produced by the specimen is more than what the equipment is capable of competing with, hazard of overheating, fire, explosion and destruction of the equipment and application may result, other than temperature drifting or degraded stability
Pull the temperature of the equipment as close as possible to the ambient before attempting to open the door or cover and shut down the equipment. Try any possible alternative when operations as such are prohibited for the specimen or the test! There may be hazards of burn or fire, misoperation of a fire alarming device and, deformation, distortion or condensation of the specimen
Pay special attention to the ACC temperature range for continuous operation of the refrigerating system. The motor-compressor is shut down for temperatures beyond ACC range, and are not applicable for immediate cooling down, removal of heat energy from the specimen
Ventilating or exhausting openings and fresh air inlets are important for safe operation and proper function of the equipment especially the refrigerating condensing unit and ventilator of an oven. Keep clear of the fresh air inlet openings at any time. Blocked or degraded ventilation may cause hazards of overheating or over pressure of the refrigerating condensing unit
When hazardous substance may be exhausted in the air by exhaust opening or operating of the door or cover, drained through liquid connections or drain device for condensate:
Hazard exists if the equipment is used to heat, cool and condition specimen containing or treated with toxic chemicals or hazardous microorganism
Hazard arises if the specimen within the equipment should be treated at periodic or aperiodic intervals, with toxic chemicals or hazardous microorganisms
Hazard develops if specimen liberates hazardous substance under refrigerated and heating conditions with or without additive humidity, or under radiation condition
Reduce the frequency of door/cover operating and keep the door/cover opening as short as possible! It takes time for the equipment to recover the temperature and temperature distribution! The temperature difference may result in condensing and dripping of the condensate on surface of the specimen and increase the consuming of electric energy
For equipment incorporated with a refrigerant condensing unit, never tilt the equipment beyond 30 ° during movement or transport! In case the equipment arrives in upside down, rollover or tilted conditions, the dielectric strength of the equipment may be degraded. The equipment must be kept standstill for at least 24 h before commissioned for normal use
Requirements for maintenance and service
There are particular requirements for flexible tubing and/or hose used with liquid connections of a circulator and an application system, which include material, rated pressure and temperature applicable to the heat transfer liquid. At interval of each half year, it is necessary to check the flexible tubing and/or hose, and replace it if necessary, when aging with time or expiration of the tubing could cause hazards. Use only flexible tubing and/or hose specified and recommended by Xutemp
Accessible refrigerating or heated surfaces of the application system and external circulating tubing could cause hazards. Thermal insulation of the accessible parts is important and use only materials specified by Xutemp
Flexible tubing, fittings connected to water supplier or application system, shall be hydraulically sealed, secured and inspected at periodic interval; containers for liquid, including bath tank, vessel for humidifier and reservoir for collecting condensate shall be checked regularly in avoidance of overflow or spillage of the liquid
Piezo-electric transducer used in ultrasonic humidifier shall be check and cleaned every week. Drain and refill the reservoir if necessary.
Water reservoir, wick of the wet-bulb thermometer used in a psychrometer shall be checked and cleaned every week. Drain and refill the reservoir if necessary
Inspect the function and validity of the gland strip, magnetic gasket of door or cover used in incubator or test chamber and, especially oven on which safe and efficient operation is relied
Hazards develop if loose screws or coupling of mechanical motion with regard to mechanical transmission, fixing or adjustment in a shaker. Check any potential hazard every week. Fix the screw or replace the parts if any loose or abrasive wear
Check the function and effectiveness of the residual current circuit breaker (RCD) if any incorporated every month
Equipment to be kept in idle for long time and/or even under frozen ambient conditions, including water bath, humidifier and equipment cooled by water, shall be drained, operated for dry-out and disconnected from power supply
For ovens and heating equipment, if high-temperature or other special cable is used for the mains supply cord and when replacement is necessary, use an equivalent cable only
Use refrigerant (s) only as specified in the documentation or identified on the label and, potential hazards may arise in association with incompatible or excessive charging of the refrigerant (s)
Follow instructions of cleaning procedures for air-cooled condenser or air filter and, strainer or cartridge filter of coolant, dirt of tubular resistance heating device etc
Check the function and effectiveness of pressure-limiting device, pressure-relief device and/or pressure-relief valve if any equipped for low or high pressure side of the motor-compressor and/or liquid pump. Check for oil pressure and level in their specified range for the motor-compressor and/or vacuum pump
Accessible by means of a tool is made only by trained personnel qualified by Xutemp. For example, the inspection and reset of the independent overtemperature switch (STB)
